Citrus Burst Body Wash.

I've been waiting on that perfect recipe for some good body wash that lathers really well (hard to do with castile soap), smells great, and makes you feel nice and soft afterward. After playing around, I finally perfected it! Since I typically shower in the morning, I thought a good Citrus blend would be great at waking me up. I was right! This stuff smells awesome!

What you'll need:

  • A glass bottle to keep your body wash in. Citrus oils are so potent that they will eat through plastic. They will also leach any toxins out of it. I opted for an olive oil bottle found at Walmart for under $3. It doesn't have a lid you need to worry about opening, and is small enough to sit on the corner shelf of my shower.
  • 8oz. Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap (I use Baby Mild)
  • 20 drops Vitamin E Oil
  • 4 tsp. Vegetable Glycerine
  • 40 drops Young Living Orange Essential Oil
  • 40 drops Grapefruit Young Living Essential Oil

I just started out with putting in the castile soap, then added all of the other ingredients, saving the essential oil for last. Once everything was added in, I shook it up really well. The vegetable glycerin is the secret to the suds. I really need things to lather for me to feel like they are getting me clean. This worked with my body poof, but I think a sponge would be even better. I'll be getting one of those to use with this body wash my next grocery shopping trip. Just plan on shaking it up a little to get everything mixed well before each use. This is such a better, natural alternative to store bought body wash - no chemicals!

Comment below with a review if you make this. I'd love to hear how everyone else likes it!

    1. I found all of the ingredients on Amazon. The bottle is an olive oil bottle from Walmart. So sorry for the late response to this post. I just saw it!

  3. Could you do this recipe without the vegetable glycerine? It sounds like you used it for the suds, but could it be omitted/replaced with anything? Thanks!

    1. You can do it without the vegetable glycerine. From the research I did, it is mainly used so it will produce the suds :)

  4. The vegetable glycerin is not just used for suds. Its a humectant and is in lots of body washes and lotions. It attracts moisture to your skin.

I dont see any phototoxic warnings on this though. Grapefruit is phototoxic and you need to avoid UV rays for a minimum of 12 hours after applying to the skin. Not so safe to use it in a recipe for skin and then not warn about the potential dangers.

    3. Whether it's diluted in fatty oil or not, it is phototoxic. Fatty oil does not make it non phototoxic. The dilution amount can reduce the effects of photo sensitivity. General rule of thumb is 24 drops per ounce. While this recipe is technically "safe", it should still carry a warning that there is a potential for a phototoxic reaction. Especially considering that yl euro droppers let out twice as much eo by volume than other companies, and some people like to add more than a recipe calls for because they don't realize using more could be harmful.

    5. You could be nice about it. I'm sure she didn't do it maliciously. Or maybe she didn't know. People who use essential oils should take some responsibility to know the dangers. Despite the dangers in the recipe I enjoyed it and like to use orange and lemongrass.

    6. Crystal, thanks for replying to Danielle in a very nice and positive tone. Some people would have replied in the same manner she did. It’s refreshing to see manners and etiquette.

  6. My husband and I have tried so many body wash recipes and many include honey, which may be healthy, but it makes a most unpleasant body wash, sticky. Your Citrus Burst Wash is just wonderful. I do use it with a net poof and it suds so nicely. My husband would like to know how to make it a bit thicker. Thanks so very much!

  8. Aloha,I can't wait to try this but scentless. I'm also thinking about adding Hawaiian Salt (Rock Salt) body scrub to it, which I make myself.

  9. This sounds wonderful! I have some guar gum and was thinking it may work as a thickener. I may try some in mine.
    Thank you !

  10. You mentioned a glass container due to the essential oils. Is there some other container you can use rather than glass in the shower. I have kids that use the same shower. Thank you!!

  11. The grapefruit oil, at that dilution, is safe.

I, personally, love a lavender/grapefruit combo (been using it in EVERYTHING lately...lol).

Suggestion...for those who are concerned about the glass bottle in the shower (I don't use glass in the shower, either)... use a foaming hand pump. You will dilute the concoction even further (which, also, appeals to those looking for an even more frugal option). Also, you can find "safe" plastic bottles (that are formulated to hold "chemicals". I find mine on Amazon...for the most part.
